"Visiting W./W. Hiller" by Paula Artkamp and Pitt Hartmann at the Pump House

11.05.2025
A moving solo evening returns to the stage: "Visiting W./W. Hiller" tells the story of a person who finds their way (to themselves) between genders and systems, and thus does not lose its relevance.

A classic for the birthday celebration: Over 20 years ago, "Visiting W./W. Hiller" premiered in the Pumpenhaus. Since then, this solo directed by Paula Artkamp has become a piece of Pumpenhaus history. Pitt Hartmann plays W. Hiller. A person who lived in two centuries, in two systems – and between genders. Born as Walter, Hiller becomes a front-line soldier, later a milling machine operator and family man in real existing socialism – until at the age of 51 he exchanges the overalls for the red dress and lives on as Walli. Finally at peace with himself, he stops hiding lingerie under the uniform. Director Paula Artkamp has turned Hiller's life story into a theatrical celebration. With Irish stew, good red wine, and limitless hospitality.
