40 years of theater in the pump house – The anniversary

10.05.2025
For 40 years, the Theater im Pumpenhaus has stood for pioneering art, progressive perspectives, and creative exchange. For the anniversary, it looks back on its history with two highlight productions – and resolutely forward into the future.

On May 10, the Pumpenhaus will celebrate its 40th anniversary. These are four decades in which the theater has grown as a place for strong artistic statements, where extraordinary artists and companies have been supported and developed. As a tribute, the Pumpenhaus will present two works for the anniversary: “Travelogue I – Twenty to eight” by Sasha Waltz and Pitt Hartmanns/RedArts “Guest at W./W. Hiller,” each representing its own chapter in the history of the Pumpenhaus, from which a glimpse into the future will be attempted. Instead of indulging in the bliss of candles and cake, the round birthday should serve as an incentive not to remain stagnant. An attitude that should also characterize the artistic program in May. The house is to be opened even more to the entire city community and networks are to be expanded, with the Pumpenhaus serving as a companion for even more artists who meet the challenges of our time with uncompromisingly excellent works. The theater is needed more than ever as a meeting place where a world in turmoil is questioned together. And where courage can be drawn together.

Program for the anniversary event:

5:00 PM: Welcome speeches & champagne reception | 8:00 PM: Performance of Sasha Waltz's “Travelogue I – Twenty to eight” | Following: Birthday party for 40 years of Pumpenhaus
