Ways through the land: Who speaks sows, who listens reaps

15.06.2025
Location
Gut Rietberg
An evening about Chile, South America – and the power of words. With Anna Schudt, Matthias Brandt, the duo Babel Collage, and works by Allende, Neruda, and Skármeta.

“Who speaks, sows. Who listens, reaps.” – Under this motto, a special evening at Gut Rietberg invites you on a literary-musical journey to South America.

The duo Babel Collage, consisting of Brazilian singer Giovanna Piazza and Mexican guitarist Carlos Corona, combines traditional Latin American music with jazzy sounds. Their pieces tell of the diversity of the continent – from the plains of Mexico through the tropical forests of Brazil to the Andes of Chile.

In the literary part of the evening, actress and Emmy Award winner Anna Schudt reads from the novel “The House of the Spirits” by Isabel Allende – a moving family saga about four generations that also describes Chile's path into military dictatorship.

Matthias Brandt reads from the novel “Burning Patience” by Antonio Skármeta, which tells the deep friendship between the poet Pablo Neruda and his postman – full of poetry, political tension, and human closeness. In addition, he presents the last radio interview of Salvador Allende – a historical document of great emotional power.

To conclude, Anna Schudt and Matthias Brandt read poems by Pablo Neruda together.
