Irish storytelling has a long tradition. To this day, the old songs and stories resound in pubs and living rooms – and it is exactly this sound that Danny O’Connor brings to OWL together with Bernd Lüdke. The duo combines traditional Irish folk with modern songs from Ireland and creates a real pub atmosphere. The musical program is complemented by energetic step dances from Gyula Glaser and Nicole Ohnesorge – captivating and full of joy for life.
Literature also does not fall short: The acting duo Wolfram Koch and Samuel Finzi brings two highlights of Irish literature to the stage.
First, Wolfram Koch leads through Flann O’Brien's novel “At Swim-Two-Birds,” an absurdly comic masterpiece about a literature student who believes a good book needs at least three different beginnings. What follows is a wild narrative full of music, poetry, wit, and Dublin pub flair.
In the second part, Samuel Finzi reads from Samuel Beckett's story “First Love.” In a grotesque tone, an oddball recounts his unexpected affection for a prostitute – an absurd, profound story about intimacy, rejection, and liberation from societal conventions.
