The performance by Julia Riera (Mira) and Philine Velhagen (Drama Köln) is about how memories and traces of human existence can be preserved beyond the here and now.
The project "Wonderboom" centers around four last party guests who celebrate a seemingly endless demolition party between apocalyptic ecstasy and despair. Without knowing what the future holds, they try to preserve something that can be sent as a testament to their humanity into another time and to a distant place. They make audio recordings, fragments of their memories, sounds, and thoughts – inspired by the golden data discs of the Voyager spacecraft, which were launched into space in 1977 to report on humanity to possible extraterrestrial intelligences.
The performance raises the question of whether we still understand what constitutes our humanity – or whether we have long since become "aliens" in our own world.
