Ruhrtriennale 2025: Every-body-knows-what-tomorrow-brings-and-we-all-know-what-happened-yesterday

bis 31.08.2025
A solo in search of autonomy - Choreographer and dancer Mohamed Toukabri applies his sharp choreographic gaze to the architecture of dance itself at PACT Zollverein in Essen.

“The Upside Down Man,” that’s what the Belgian-Tunisian choreographer and dancer Mohamed Toukabri called himself after his first solo. Known for his ability to navigate between worlds – be it street and stage, hip-hop and postmodernism, personal and political – Toukabri now turns his sharp choreographic gaze to the architecture of dance itself. He digs into his own body like an archaeologist and explores the different layers of dance within him. At the same time, he attempts to create an opening, a decolonization of his imagination. What responsibility do we bear for what we pass on, erase, or preserve? We are all involved in the act of reinvention, and this solo is an invitation to reinvent it together.

A production by Caravan Production in co-production with Needcompany, VIERNULVIER, Charleroi Danse centre chorégraphique de Wallonie – Bruxelles, Kunstencentrum STUK, Théâtre Les Tanneurs, Concertgebouw Brugge, Beursschouwburg, Perpodium.

Organized by PACT Zollverein with support from the Ruhrtriennale.
