Ruhrfestspiele 2025: The Dinner

bis 15.05.2025
The play is based on the novel "Dinner" by Herman Koch. Two couples meet in a upscale restaurant. During the course of the multi-course menu, a dark secret comes to light: their sons have killed a homeless person together.

The production by András Dömötör premiered in 2024 at the Deutsches Theater Berlin. The play addresses themes such as responsibility, guilt, and family loyalty. It illuminates how violence survives beneath the thin layer of civilization and how human aggression is socially suppressed and trivialized.

In the moral crime drama, Maren Eggert and Ulrich Matthes as well as Wiebke Mollenhauer and Bernd Moss play the two couples who discuss how to deal with the crime within their ranks.
