"For me, jazz is a vehicle to communicate as freely as possible with other people," was the answer of this jazz pianist born in the tranquil little town of Herdecke in the Ruhr area. Among these people, Held especially counts bassist Robert Landfermann and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel. For what seems like an eternity, they have formed perhaps the most successful German jazz trio.
Moreover, the recipe for success or the magic word is "interaction." The musicians take this very literally and usually forgo any agreements and arrangements during their sessions. Everything is open - and that something extraordinary always emerges from it can be confirmed, not least, by jazz guitar demigod John Scofield, who has called the trio "one of the best bands in current music."
