The just 19-year-old Brazilian violinist Guido Sant’Anna takes on the solo part in a concert that ranges from Sibelius to Bernstein and Alberto Ginastera.

Music is an "essential language" for violinist Guido Sant’Anna, born in 2005 in São Paulo, Brazil. At his debut concert as a stARTacademy scholarship holder, he is accompanied by the equally Brazilian Neojibá – Youth Orchestra of Bahia. The musicians from a support program for socially disadvantaged children and adolescents bring a passion and joy of playing to the stage that is often missing in Western ensembles – and at impressively high levels. With a contrasting program – Bernstein's "West Side Story" is included! – they want to express their joy of playing.

Antônio Carlos Gomes: Lo schiavo (The Slave): Alvorada

Jean Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D Minor op. 47

Leonard Bernstein: West Side Story: Symphonic Dances

Aaron Copland: El Salón Mexicó

Alberto Ginastera: Suite Estancia op. 8a

(Los Trabajadores agricolas, Danza del trigo, Los Peones de hacienda, Danza final)

Guido Sant’Anna (violin), Neojibá – Youth Orchestra of Bahia, Ricardo Castro (conductor)
