Free Comic Book Day on May 10

On Saturday, it will be time: More than 1,300 comic stores, libraries, and libraries in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and Switzerland are looking forward to comic fans.

The Free Comic Day is designed as a nationwide cooperation between comic publishers, the book trade, and the library system, where 22 specially produced children’s and youth comics with a print run of about 800,000 copies are simply given away across the country.

In 2025, this will also include issues from Carlsen with “Little Witch Fog”, “Human!” and Disney’s “Lilo + Stitch: O’Hana Means Family”, Egmont with “Idefix – A Lion with Homesickness”, “WAS IST WAS Comic – Planets and Space Travel”, “LTB Space – Adventures in Space”, “Minecraft 01 – A Journey to the End of the World” and “Atelier of Witch Hat 01” or Panini with DC Comics “Batman”, Marvel Comics “Spider-Man” and “Runs (GN)”.

The goal of the day is to strengthen the stationary book trade against the overwhelming online competition. And so, the free comics are only available in regular stores and not online. It is also about demonstrating the attractiveness of children’s comics in terms of reading promotion and reading motivation in times of declining reading levels among elementary school students.

In NRW, numerous retailers and libraries from Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bonn, and Wuppertal to Mülheim, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, and Dortmund up to Hamm are participating. Here is the dealer search.
