
Already as a teenager, she sang old jazz and blues songs on the streets of Paris, including classics by Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits, which she still has in her repertoire today. With her second album "Careless Live," she became a star in 2004. Her fans have waited six years for her ninth album "Let’s Walk," which will be released in 2024. Madeleine Peyroux had to process a lot: The murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery deeply shook her – and led her to engage even more intensely with African American literature and with the music of her heroes Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, and Marian Anderson. This has left its mark on her music – as will be heard in the concert with the WDR Big Band.
