The exhibition in Ahlen brings together 20 international female artists who expand the concept of Concrete Art and bring it into the present.
Reduced colors, geometric shapes, no artistic handwriting… One hundred years ago, Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931) introduced a new form of art: Concrete Art should contain nothing of the formal conditions of nature, the senses, and feelings. Even today there are many artists who seem to be connected to the maxims of the Dutch painter. They are the focus of the exhibition. The Art Museum Ahlen specifically chooses female artists because they are still underrepresented in the art industry. Exactly twenty international positions are represented, expanding the concept of Concrete Art in paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and textile objects, bringing it into the present.
