Women Film Fest: "The Two Faces of a Bamiléké Woman"

05.04.2025
From the Life of a Woman: At the Women's Film Festival, Rosine Mbakam tells the family story "The Two Faces of a Bamiléké Woman."

Seven years after Rosine Mbakam came from Cameroon to Belgium, she returns to her homeland. Back to her origins, to her family, and especially to her mother. She tells stories from her life and about traditions – the audience learns casually about different mourning attire for various family members, how normal second or third wives are, and that the mother, as a self-employed market seller, couldn't even read the newspapers in which she wrapped the fish. Value-free and non-commenting, the documentary takes us into the life of a woman who has achieved a lot despite adverse circumstances, but it also tells of the loneliness and longing of those who have left.
