"Busy Girl": 70 Years of Barbies

07.11.2024 - 18.05.2025
How have role models developed - and cliches? Bettina Dorfmann has a huge Barbie collection, with which she also tells about the professional and life world of women at Schloss Strünkede.

What professions were intended for women in the 1960s? What are they today? These are also the questions that the exhibition "Busy Girl" revolves around, showcasing the development of women's professional and life world through Barbie dolls, houses, and accessories. Karin Schrey has curated the exhibition with Bettina Dorfmann, which holds a record entry in the Guinness Book of Records with its impressive collection of 18,500 Barbie dolls.

The traveling exhibition was initiated in 2004 at the Museum of the City of Ratingen and has since been displayed in over 40 locations. "We have expanded the exhibition to include the theme of inclusion," says Bettina Dorfmann. "It is important to us to represent the diversity of life realities and to show that everyone has a place in society - regardless of gender or disability."
