With their often particularly spontaneous gestures, surprising twists, and melancholic cheerfulness, the around 60 sonatas appeal not only to the classically trained pianists who have received numerous awards, but also to the jazz pianist Becker, who has been passionate about jazz since early childhood! Haydn's sonatas, with their overflowing abundance of ideas, invite him to "playfully continue". Becker, who is currently working on a complete recording of all Haydn sonatas, initially lets Haydn speak in the original during this concert – before he picks out motifs from the sonatas to be inspired by them for jazz improvisations.
