From "Open Class" to "Inside Out": An Exciting Insight into the World of Ballet at the Rhine
A visit to the training center of Ballet at the Rhine opens up new perspectives on an art form that many encounter with a certain distance – unjustly. Michael Foster, a former professional dancer and now a passionate ballet mediator, leads the program "Dance with!" at Ballet at the Rhine in Düsseldorf Duisburg. He encourages everyone to free themselves from inhibitions and step onto the dance floor to discover surprising facets of this special art form as well as new sides of themselves.
In November, a dance format returns that requires no prior knowledge and invites participation: "Inside Out" is a movement performance that operates without loud music and an audience. The choreography develops during the event as participants receive music and movement tasks through headphones. Inspiration comes from six dancers of the Ballet at the Rhine, who move among the participants. The format is particularly friendly for beginners, as it does not involve a critical audience, thus creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Those who want more will find numerous opportunities at the Ballet Center to engage more deeply with the profession of dance: The daily routine of a dancer is based on intensive, physically and artistically challenging training sessions that the company completes six days a week under the guidance of ballet masters. Those who want to experience how a "Class" unfolds can follow it live on selected Saturdays during the event "Insights". Dance enthusiasts who wish to become active themselves also have the opportunity to participate in the weekly "Open Class" for beginners and advanced participants or in the "Mixed Abled"- class – a format for people with and without disabilities. Also in "Ballet Up Close", initiative is required: After attending a rehearsal, participants try out movements from the repertoire and learn improvisation techniques as well as choreography sequences to gain insight into the creative process of a ballet evening.
