Both appear enigmatic, almost a bit enchanted. The paintings of Simone Lucas and Sven Kroner are meant. In the museum at Cappenberg Castle in Selm, the two artists challenge viewers to look closely in their joint exhibition "The Vastness and the Detail." For both create their own image of reality. Seemingly objective and sober, in the style of New Objectivity, which brought a new, clear form of expression to painting almost exactly 100 years ago and attempted to depict people and the world in detail.

Simone Lucas' images are surreal-looking interiors, almost fairy-tale settings that serve as a stage for figures. While she often dedicates herself to the simple things of everyday life in her paintings, Sven Kroner also considers societal and global developments in his works. Although his images provide insights into his house and studio, his village and city views from a bird's eye perspective also reflect current social issues. As a basis for his compositions, he sometimes builds his own models, which occasionally become part of an exhibition.
