"Swiss Treasures" in Wallraf

28.03.2025 - 27.07.2025
Location
Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud
The Swiss Museum Langmatt preserves one of the leading collections of French Impressionism in Europe. Because the building is being renovated, the treasures are being sent on a journey. In spring, they will be hosted for a few months at the Wallraf.

Pissarro looks out the window at the busy Boulevard Montmartre lined with delicate green-leaved trees. Monet lives near the Seine and paints the river repeatedly – even in January with ice that has broken, drifting in chunks. And Cézanne's "Bathers" rest at the blue water in the forest among trees, connecting with nature all around them in a picturesque way. Three of many treasures from the Swiss Museum Langmatt, which holds one of the leading collections of French Impressionism in Europe. Because the house – a Jugendstil villa in Baden, near Zurich – is being renovated, the treasures are going on tour. In spring, they will stay in Wallraf for several months and engage in dialogue with impressionistic works from the in-house collection.
