She has been regarded as the best clarinetist for 40 years now – Sabine Meyer. At the beginning of her career, she was the main figure in a huge scandal. Karajan wanted to bring Meyer into his Berlin Philharmonic without involving the orchestra in the decision. This led to a publicly fought power struggle, which Meyer survived completely unscathed. Since then, over 40 contemporary composers like Toshio Hosokawa have written concerts and chamber music works for her. With a recording of clarinet concertos by Mozart's contemporary Carl Stamitz, she broke all expectations and sales records with nearly 200,000 recordings. And with her Trio di Clarone, she regularly dedicates herself to jazz and blues. Now Meyer can be experienced twice as a chamber musician. First, she partners with Nils Mönkemeyer (viola) and William Youn (piano) for an All-Star Trio featuring Schumann and Mendelssohn. In May, she will celebrate Mozart's clarinet quintet among others with the Armida Quartet.
