The young lawyer Tessa, who has made her way from the working class in England to a prestigious law firm, defends men who are being prosecuted for sexual offenses. In court, she methodically and brilliantly cross-examines the prosecution's witnesses to uncover doubts in favor of her clients. One won case follows another – until an unexpected attack on her own person, the sexual assault by a colleague during their first date, forces Tessa to pause. Suddenly, she is confronted with experiences that massively call into question her self-determination. She files a report and ultimately finds herself in court in the opposite position: from defense attorney, she has become a prosecution witness whose word is being doubted.
