Rock-Pop-Punk-Theater-Party: Like A Rolling Stone

bis 21.06.2025
With Like a Rolling Stone, the Theater Hagen brings a new rock-pop-punk crossover show to the stage, taking a musical journey from the roots of rock in blues to current stars like P!nk. The production spans the arc from classic ballads to the style-defining Beatles-or-Stones question, the emergence of German rock, punk, and reggae, to modern pop icons.
The title refers not only to Bob Dylan's eponymous song from 1965 but also addresses a central motif of rock culture: the figure of the "rolling stone," originally used in the blues as a metaphor for a restless life. Dylan's lines "When you got nothin', you got nothin' to lose" became an expression of a self-understanding that still shapes many rock and pop stars today – between rebellion, freedom, and outsider status. As with earlier productions like "Simply the Best," all songs are scenically interpreted and implemented with theatrical aesthetic means in this staging. Director Holger Potocki directs a dynamic interplay of music, choreography, scene, video art, and live performance. At the center are the two well-known Hagen singers Vanessa Henning and Patrick Sühl, who this time receive support from Kenneth Mattice from the theater's ensemble – a performance that also opens up a new artistic facet for him. "Like a Rolling Stone" is not only musically diverse but also sees itself as an invitation to the audience to become part of the event. Because the real star of the evening, according to the creators, remains the audience itself.
