His upcoming album "Fearless Movement" is inspired by dance - and by the birth of his daughter. In Cologne, the US musician gives a preview of his new work.

Again and again, Kamasi Washington talks about fans who have converted to jazz. "I hated jazz before I heard you," Washington often hears. And what does he reply to that? "You haven't hated jazz until now, but the idea of jazz." The saxophonist from Los Angeles, who has primarily been active in the hip-hop scene and has collaborated with big names like Mos Def and Snoop Dogg, seems to have now made extraordinary thoughts about jazz. Since his debut album "The Epic" was released, which offers 174 minutes of music on 3 CDs, the cultural sections are overflowing with hymns and bows. The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" speculated that "jazz history has just been waiting" to finally be summarized by Washington. In May, there will be the now fifth album from Washington, titled "Fearless Movement" – with a live preview beforehand.
