wide awake: "Replica. A ... the first attempt..."

24.05.2025
The piece by the trio Meinhardt & Kraus is about the encounter between a man and his Doppelgänger. A dance theater with human and robot for everyone aged 14 and up.

The stage is populated by puppets, avatars, and a robotic humanoid. They are all doppelgängers of the brave protagonist, who sets out to learn to fear. Disturbed and fascinated at the same time, the main character dares to take a look behind the mirror, at the back side of his self, to learn to be spooked by the sight of his shadow, his other self, his dark twin. He holds up a mirror to the audience with his fearlessness and his bold wit.

"wide awake" – 11th International Theater Festival for Young Audiences

From May 17 to 25, the Helios Theater invites productions for young audiences from all over the world to Hamm and its surroundings to create memorable theater experiences. Every two years, international artists gather at "wide awake" to bring theater for all to the stage. Since 2002, the festival has created space for encounters and exchange.

Meinhardt & Kraus

Meinhardt & Kraus have been the puppet player/director Iris Meinhardt, the director/video artist Michael Krauss, and the composer/musician Thorsten Meinhardt since 2003. The plays of the Stuttgart group thrive on the intense exchange between puppet theater, film, new media, and contemporary music. High tech and poetry, virtuality and body merge into a unique theatrical language that invites one to perceive the seemingly unreal as true with a sense of the surreal.
