With "Hamlet/Ophelia", theater director Selen Kara in Essen takes a new look at William Shakespeare's most famous tragedy.
After staging "Doctor Mother Faust," Selen Kara continues her critical engagement with the classic stage canon and takes on William Shakespeare's "Hamlet." It is not only the tragedy of a hesitant young man who doubts for too long and thus fails to free himself from the mechanisms of the state, such as revenge. It is also a lesson about the machinery of a politics that does not want to see alternatives and consequently produces nothing but destruction. It is precisely at this point that Selen Kara engages with "Hamlet/Ophelia." Her production lays bare that machinery and questions it in this way.
