With his black-and-white portrait series, the photographer born in 1969 has been documenting Jewish life in Germany, especially in NRW, for more than 25 years. In 2003, his photo book "Moments – Portraits of Jews in Germany" was published. For the current exhibition, which is shown in the event hall of the Jewish Museum Westphalia, Vogel contributed 15 photographs.
The location and pose were chosen by the refugees from Ukraine themselves. Thus, photographs were created that provide a very personal insight into the situation of the newcomers. The images show sadness, exhaustion, doubt, but also hope. They thus bear witness to the consequences of flight and displacement – topics that have not lost their relevance to this day.
Since the event hall is not always publicly accessible, it is advisable to make an inquiry before visiting at reception@jmw-dorsten.de or 02362 45279.
