With his production "Beytna", he opened the Ruhrfestspiele in 2019. Now, Omar Rajeh takes the audience on a journey into his autobiographical universe with a solo performance.
Memories, longings, and traumas intertwine with the complex reality of his homeland Lebanon. In Beirut, Rajeh founded his dance company Maqamat in 2002 and opened the cultural center Citerne Beirut in 2017. However, political and economic turmoil in the country forced him to close it and ultimately leave Beirut. He now lives in Lyon.
Rajeh makes the pain and chaos palpable that the people of his homeland experience. Yet he also shows that dance is a means of resistance – a rebellion against power structures that want to control bodies and silence them.
