The Bunker Ulmenwall becomes a stage for captivating poetry: At the monthly poetry slam, talented word artists from near and far compete against each other. With wordplay and storytelling, they fight for victory. The audience alone decides who wins with their applause.
The Bunker Ulmenwall is a cultural venue that creates a special atmosphere in a limited space. Originally built as a medical bunker at the foot of the Bielefeld Sparrenberg in 1938, it encompasses only 200 square meters of publicly accessible area. Narrow corridors and winding passages make the cellar a labyrinthine course.
Up to 199 visitors gather here around a barely 20 square meter stage, which is at eye level with the audience. This proximity creates an intense experience – especially for jazz fans, artists, and writers. Due to the heat and closeness, the performers often affectionately call the bunker “Toaster.”
