Brühl Castle Concerts | Bach at four: "World Heritage Site anno 1724"

08.02.2026
Bach's over 200 cantatas belong to the world heritage in the field of vocal music. At the Brühl Palace concerts, Andreas Spering presents two works from this collection with the Capella Augustina.

The famous "Chorale Cantata Year" 1724 is regarded not only among Bach enthusiasts as one of the most moving works composed in this field. As part of the "Bach um vier" series, Andreas Spering presents two masterpieces from this cantata collection in his role as conductor and moderator. Incredibly rich in color, featuring bass trombone and bassoon among others, the cantata "Ach Herr, mich armen Sünder" BWV 135 tells of the sinner's repentance. The cantata "Was frag ich nach der Welt" BWV 94, composed for traverso and oboe among others, equally revolves around the turning away from earthly temptations. Whether in the elaborate opening chorus or the solo arias – everywhere, Bach's genius can be grasped with hands and hearts.
