Locations and dates
Four uninhibited ancient muses by the Hagen sculptor Milly Steger guard the main entrance of the Theater Hagen, which originally dates back to 1911 and today has over 800 seats behind its art nouveau decorated facade.
A music theater ensemble serves the genres of opera, operetta, musical, and ballet, as well as individual theater productions. Otherwise, spoken theater is covered by guest performances. Located on the edge of the Sauerland, the Theater Hagen has a fairly large catchment area: About 30 percent of the visitors come from outside.
In doing so, the people of Hagen have attracted regional attention through their open handling of critical topics. The house is well-known, not least because of its youth theater division, which was established in 2000 – since 2003, the “lutz” has had its own venue with 150 seats. Additionally, during this renovation, the “opushagen” was created, a studio stage with just over 300 seats.
