In the Portrait: Theater Duisburg

VenuStageDuisburg
For over 50 years, the "Theater marriage" Duisburg - Düsseldorf has existed as the "German Opera on the Rhine" and is thus the second oldest theater community in Germany, presenting operas, operettas, and ballets at a world-renowned level.

The front of the Duisburg Theater resembles the temple entrances of antiquity: Over six ionic columns rests a triangular pediment. In large letters, there is a quote from Friedrich Schiller from the "Tribute to the Arts" inviting the audience – in a total of 1117 seats – to see "the great game of the world" and subsequently "return richer within themselves." The Duisburg Theater's performance offers a multifaceted program through collaboration with the theaters of the region.

At the annual festival "Akzente," the major German-speaking theaters also present their outstanding productions at the Duisburg Theater. The Duisburg Philharmonic, founded in 1877, is one of the prestigious orchestras in Germany. With the successful concert-educational project "Klasse!Klassik," the Philharmonic has also solidified its reputation.
