In the Portrait: tanzhaus nrw

VenuStageDüsseldorf
Emerging from the socio-cultural cultural initiative "Die Werkstatt" founded in 1978, the "tanzhaus nrw" has been located since 1998 in a former tram depot not far from Düsseldorf Central Station.

Since 2000, the uniquely German house has been exclusively dedicated to free contemporary dance. It is firmly based on two pillars: dance educational groundwork and a year-round stage program. Diversity characterizes this program in aesthetic terms. Pioneering choreographies and companies are presented just as much as contemporary forms of Flamenco or the relatively young dance art of Hip-Hop.

In addition, tanzhaus nrw supports both established and emerging artists equally. Up to twelve works are co-produced here each year. There is also support through residencies lasting up to four weeks, offering the opportunity to rehearse non-performance-oriented in the house. A large and a small studio stage, as well as eight studios, are available for this purpose. Special emphasis is placed on promoting young dance artists, particularly with the project "Take-off: Young Dance. Dance Plan Düsseldorf" since 2006.
