Judges underground

One gladly waits for the train: At Duisburg's central subway station König-Heinrich-Platz, where Gerhard Richter and Isa Genzken realized their only joint work.

The two were still a couple, the dream couple of the scene so to speak, when they went to work underground in the 1980s to give the station a very own face: lemon-yellow-clad escalators, stainless steel on columns and walls, and wall-filling elements made of colorful enamel transform the station into a work of art. Richter: "In the artistic design, we preferred less the usual places for art-in-architecture decorations, but rather placed the main weight on the platform level."
