With his work, the American explores new choreographic forms. In doing so, Siegal expands the dance terrain to include different artistic disciplines. Both the dancers of the Folkwang Tanzstudio (FTS) and the students from the Master's program in Dance Composition now benefit from this.

Although Richard Siegal and his "Ballet of Difference," which has been engaged at the Schauspiel Köln since 2019, brought the cathedral city into the conversation as a vital venue for contemporary dance, their contract, which ends in 2024, was not extended. Siegal will therefore move on to Franconia – starting from the 2025/26 season, he will take over the ballet section at the Staatstheater Nürnberg.

However, he will still remain in NRW. These days, Siegal is taking on the guest professorship "Contemporary Dance" established in 2019 at the Institute for Contemporary Dance of the Folkwang University of the Arts (IZT). The focus of his work with the FTS and Folkwang students is the preparation of the production "Lunar Cycle," which will be experienced from March 14 to April 13 at the Museum Folkwang. "Lunar Cycle" explores human movement as a response to climate change over the course of a lunar phase cycle and weaves geodata from melting polar caps with performance, light and projections, sound and live music.
