Thinking from the Body: PACT Zollverein
UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein – here is PACT Zollverein based. Not a bad address for an institution that is many things at once: artists' and production house, studio, theater, laboratory.
For the renovation, the British architect Lord Norman Foster was commissioned, who transformed the building not only into an extraordinary exhibition space but also into a venue for events and congresses. The new architecture of glass and concrete blends unobtrusively with the old structure of red steel framework and brick. Nevertheless, the red dot design museum is a place of contrasts – where else can you find a car body hanging among rusty machine parts on the ceiling? In addition to classic industrial design, the best works of communication design such as posters, books, and websites are awarded annually.
