Emscher Art Trail: David Jablonowski's installation "Public Hybrid"

In David Jablonowski's 3D printing sculpture "Public Hybrid", which can be seen in the Dortmund district of Schüren, recycled plastic meets Ruhr sandstone from nearby Sprockhövel.

Directly on the bike route "Emscher Way," Jablonowski groups the hybrid structures on a slightly rising terrain of 8 by 30 meters, always keeping an eye on the Emscher: the renaturation of the small river has already made significant progress in the upper course, he notes. How to return this area shaped by industry to its pre-industrial state fascinates the artist. For this reason, he chose this location in Dortmund-Schüren for his work.

Although Jablonowski has lived in Amsterdam for nearly 20 years, he was born in Bochum in 1982 and sees himself shaped by his youth in the region. The Emscher conversion, which has been underway for 30 years, is a kind of total artwork for him.
