Melanie Wunsch will succeed Dr. Doreen Mölders as the head of the LWL Museum in Herne on September 1, 2025. The archaeologist Wunsch is currently employed at the Neanderthal Museum.

Melanie Wunsch studied Prehistory and Early History and Celtic Studies at Philipps University of Marburg. After leading various archaeological excavations in Hesse, Saxony, and North Rhine-Westphalia, she switched to museum work in 2011 and contributed to the creation of the permanent exhibition at the State Museum of Archaeology in Chemnitz. Since 2014, she has been working in exhibition management at the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann. During this time, Wunsch developed new exhibition formats on current social issues in connection with archaeological research and was the project manager responsible for the exhibition "2 Million Years of Migration." Her predecessor Mölders had been the head of the LWL Museum since 2018 and has transferred to the Historical Museum Frankfurt/Main as of January 1, 2025. Since then, Dr. Susanne Jülich has been leading the museum in Herne on an interim basis.

"I am pleased that we were able to win Melanie Wunsch, a recognized exhibition manager and science communicator, for the management."
