The DKM is a private art museum in the central Duisburg Dell district. It was created at the initiative of the two construction entrepreneurs Dirk Krämer and Klaus Maas (hence the name), who wished for a house for their collection.
Completed in 2009, the museum was created from the renovation of a former electronics store, offering no less than 50 rooms for art across 2,600 square meters. The presentation and mixture of these works is special: some ancient pieces from the Far East, India, and Egypt are brought together with those of contemporary Western art, including concrete art, serial installations, sign-based sculpture, meditative constructivism, and hard-edge painting. "Lines of quiet beauty" is the name of the always slightly varied DKM permanent exhibition – indeed, there is an almost meditative atmosphere here. However, alongside the permanent exhibition of these works, the DKM also presents temporary exhibitions.
