Since 2007, the museum in Dortmund's Westfalenpark has primarily encouraged children aged three to twelve years to embark on intercultural discovery journeys. As part of a redesign of the Westfalenpark entrance area on Ruhrallee, a new district is being developed for mondo mio! The special museum, which is currently located in the former Florianhalle, is expected to move into a building in 2028 that meets today's museum requirements while also integrating into the existing park landscape.
Already now, explains Nina Schulze from the museum's management team, preparations are underway for a contemporary permanent exhibition in the new building. "We place special emphasis on a participatory process, where children, teenagers, and other interested parties are actively involved in the development of the new museum," says Schulze.
At the beginning of March, the mondo mio! children's museum will open the new special exhibition "unSICHTBAR verbunden". The presentation, designed as a series, offers exciting content and creative participation activities for all age groups. At the same time, the permanent exhibitions "Nijambo" and "Weltenkinder" will be closed to the general public to gradually develop them for the future location.
