The Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) has one more museum: The collection of the Museum for Lacquer Art of BASF is being taken over by the Museum for Art and Culture in Münster.

The collection of the Museum of Lacquer Art in Münster is one of the world's most prestigious with objects from Southeast Asia, South Korea, Japan, China, and the Islamic world, according to a statement from the LWL. It includes around 1,250 lacquer art objects and an extensive collection of historical books, which will now be integrated into the collection of the LWL Museum of Art and Culture in 2024.

The Museum of Lacquer Art at its current location on Windthorststraße near the promenade is scheduled to close on February 1, 2024. From 2025, the lacquer art collections will then be presented in a new display at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture, according to an announcement. The chemical company BASF had reassessed its social engagement at the end of 2022 and decided to focus on the area of education at the Münster location.
