The new dual leadership convinced the selection committee with a concept whose cornerstones are interdisciplinary curatorial formats, the inclusion of non-Western perspectives, and multi-voiced participation. Furthermore, Klang and Tarak emphasize establishing connections on-site with institutions in the fields of education, pedagogy, and care.
Katharina Klang was the founding director of the Sammlung Philara in Düsseldorf, which she led until June 2022. Her portfolio includes more than 40 exhibitions on contemporary art. Additionally, she was entrusted with teaching assignments at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. Since 2021, Victoria Tarak has also been imparting her knowledge of contemporary art to students there. The Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, the Tanzhaus NRW, and Sammlung Philara are among those places where Tarak has contributed to projects.
The Kunstverein Bielefeld was founded in 1929 and currently has nearly 900 members. The next group exhibition, titled "Am I a Monster?", runs from February 17 to April 28.
