Behind the meter-thick walls of the Bilker bunker, an open space for art, culture, and encounters has emerged. On two floors, changing contemporary art formats and an experimental cultural program take place. Different disciplines, positions, and actors meet here, creating a creative exchange that opens up new perspectives.
The Bilker high bunker, built in 1942 as air raid protection structure No. 25, was reinterpreted in 1995 through a colorful facade design by the artist group around Klaus Klinger (Color Fever). The mural "Time Travelers" symbolizes the coexistence of different cultures. Since 2016, the team from KÜSSDENFROSCH has developed a versatile art and culture concept together with the Bilker Bunker gGmbH, engaged neighbors, and the citizens' initiative "Bilk Pro Bunker." The redesign of the bunker connects history with contemporary art – creating a vibrant place for encounters.
Today, artistic positions enter into dialogue with the architecture and history of this special place. In addition to the exhibition spaces, there are indirect showrooms where the regional fashion scene can spread, such as for the presentation of the latest collections, product launches, and individual projects from brands and designers.
The music bar "Schleuse 2" in the Bilker Bunker invites you to bar evenings and DJ sets. There is also a stage program with live performances and concerts regularly taking place here.
