In the second year of management by Katrin Zagrosek, 60 pianists will start in 17 cities. The featured artist is Evgeny Kissin.
Even in the 37th edition of the traditional festival, which has been taking place since 1988, piano enthusiasts are likely to get their money's worth. In her second year as artistic director, Katrin Zagrosek has not only focused on a musically broad panorama that begins with Bach and ends with the current jazz sessions of Michael Wollny.
Among the approximately 60 pianists playing this time in 17 cities, there are familiar faces with projects specifically tailored for the festival. The "portrait artist" Evgeny Kissin, among others, commemorates the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, who died 50 years ago, with star violinist Gidon Kremer.
