ArtDüsseldorf
We have become accustomed to streams by now. However, the abundance that the Julia Stoschek Collection washes onto our screens is indeed impressive. A total of 870 works by 290 artists such as Tobias Zielony, Pipilotti Rist, or Tracey Emin from one of the largest private collections of media art in the world can be researched in the online collection catalog. In full length, 220 works by 60 artists are available for free in the collection catalog and in the JSC Video Lounge. The special exhibition "Worldbuilding: Video Games and Art in the Digital Age in Düsseldorf" runs until December 2023.

Behind these walls in the lovely Düsseldorf district of Oberkassel, many things have happened. After industrial use such as the production of theater equipment, machine parts, light bulbs, ladies' corsets, mattresses, and picture frames, the building constructed in 1907 is now the exhibition space of the Julia Stoschek Collection, a private collection of contemporary (media) art. Since the summer of 2007, the exquisite showroom has occupied the former production facilities of the frame factory Conzen.

The building was restructured by the Berlin architectural firm Kühn Malvezzi according to the requirements of the collection. The architects had already made a name for themselves with the renovation of the Kassel Binding Brewery for documenta 11.

For public presentation, the Julia Stoschek Collection, which significantly enhances Düsseldorf's museum landscape, has two floors available with a total of 2500 square meters. The concept envisions regularly presenting new aspects of the collection, but cooperative projects with other curators and institutions are also possible. Among the now over 400 works are pieces by artists such as Marina Abramovic, Doug Aitken, Francis Alÿs, Thomas Demand, Dan Graham, Douglas Gordon, Christian Jankowski, Jon Kessler, Adam McEwan, Paul Pfeiffer, Mika Rottenberg, Katharina Sieverding, Taryn Simon. In short, it is "the collection of my generation," as the namesake born in 1975 emphasized in an interview.
