The origins of the Dortmund art house cinema lie in the 1930s.
Like many cinemas, the Roxy was destroyed in the war and rebuilt in the style of the 1950s afterward. The charm of that era was lovingly preserved during the complete renovation in 2011. In Dortmund's Nordstadt, the Roxy, under the direction of cartoonist Holga Rosen, offers a demanding program – not only movies but also concerts and occasionally artist talks.
The Roxy is supported by a friends' association. This not only ensures the independence of the film selection but also contributes significantly to the connection with the neighborhood and the wonderful atmosphere of the cinema.
