In the portrait: "Freak Show" in Essen-Steele

MusicClubsEssen
One need not be afraid of this "freak show": The "Rock’n’Roll-Bar" run by Ela and Benny Nordvall in the Steele district of Essen offers concerts with a ghost train atmosphere.

At the entrance of the "Freak Show," which calls itself a "Rock'n'Roll bar," visitors are greeted by a gluttonous monster. No ghost train strains weak nerves behind it - instead, there is a club that the British newspaper "The Guardian" has hailed as one of the ten greatest concert venues. Worldwide! Ela and Benny Nordvall, the owners, have decorated the basement bar with great love for the macabre detail. The repertoire ranges from ska, reggae, new wave, punk, and metal to karaoke parties.

On January 12 and 13, an anniversary will be celebrated: the "12-Year Freak Show Party" is on the agenda.
