In the Portrait: Folkwang Dance Studio

StageDanceEssen
The Folkwang Dance Studio, founded in 1928 by Kurt Jooss, can look back on a long history of success. Choreographers such as Pina Bausch, Susanne Linke, Reinhild Hoffmann, and Henrietta Horn have shaped its profile.

Until her death, the FTS was artistically led by Pina Bausch. The FTS is an internationally active company that currently employs ten professional dancers from around the world. It has secured a firm place in the well-connected dance scene with its productions – guest performances have taken the company to Eastern and Central Europe, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Indonesia, and the Middle East in recent years.

The artistic approach consists of two focal points: on the one hand, the creations of young choreographers as part of their master's studies, alongside the development of pieces created in cooperation with external guest choreographers. The goal is to develop a dance vocabulary through stylistic diversity that reflects a spirit of experimentation, movement exploration, and openness. The FTS is affiliated with the Dance program at the Folkwang University in Essen.
