Emscher Art Path: Ground sculpture "Pool Lines" by Sofía Táboas in Dortmund-Schüren

ArtDortmund
More than 20 contemporary works form along the Emscher art path. With her sculpture "Pool Lines", which will be presented on December 13 in the Dortmund district of Schüren, the Mexican artist Sofía Táboas has added a triangular formation that allows for various interpretations.

Between an industrial area and allotment gardens, Táboas has installed a geometrically designed ground sculpture consisting of two triangles; these, in turn, form a third triangular shape, whose walls are covered with green shimmering mosaic tiles. "Pool Lines" resembles the remnants of a swimming pool that was never completed. Or a relic of the reconstruction of the Emscher – the river was infamous as the "sewer of the Ruhr area" before it was sustainably renaturalized. One might even associate a mystical Bermuda Triangle when seeing the artwork.

The symbolic horizon for her architectural sculpture has been consciously kept open by Sofía Táboas. The artist, who was born in 1968 in Mexico City and counts among the founding members of the alternative art space Temístocles 44, is interested in man-made space. How it is constructed, reshaped, thought about, and perceived is the starting point of her artistic considerations.

"Pool Lines" continues the series of interventions along the Emscher Art Path – most recently, in 2022, Nicole Wermers and Andreas Strauss enriched the riverside outdoor museum.
