Digital City Tours: Discovering Beuys

ArtKrefeldMönchengladbach
Krefeld and Mönchengladbach were important stops in the life of Joseph Beuys. How he influenced the two cities on the Lower Rhine can be experienced via smartphone: Two digital city tours trace the footsteps of the artist.

Joseph Beuys was born on May 12, 1921, in Krefeld. Those who want to learn more about the hometown of the influential artist can take a walk with their smartphone: The digital Beuys tour through Krefeld includes a total of ten stations, including his childhood home at Alexanderplatz and the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum, where a room ensemble of the artist can be seen. There are background information for each station in video, text, or audio format, and in between, a Beuys quiz can be played.

Beuys was also closely connected to Mönchengladbach. For example, in 1967, his first major museum exhibition took place in the city on the Lower Rhine. What other places were important to Beuys can be discovered in the digital city tour through Mönchengladbach. Via QR codes, numerous flashbacks and flash-forwards tell stories from the artist's life. For instance, one learns why a significant bronze sculpture ended up as a "doghouse" on a float during Carnival. The smartphone tour through Mönchengladbach starts and ends at the Abteiberg Museum. In between, one can engage artistically with the help of augmented reality.

Both tours are available in the Yona app. More information for Krefeld and Mönchengladbach.
