Right there, three European Championship and four World Cup trophies – of course the originals – can be admired up close. In addition, the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Coupe Jules Rimet, the DFB-Pokal, and the Coupe Henri-Delaunay. But also memorabilia such as the final match ball from 1954, Diego Maradona’s jersey from the 1990 World Cup final – as well as the penalty spot associated with the game – or Gerd Müller’s jersey from the 1974 World Cup final on loan from his direct opponent Wim Rijsbergen will not only make children's eyes shine.
But the museum also documents the darker sides of the beloved sport: football in times of war, persecution, betrayal, and bribery. The difficult beginnings of German women's football are also part of it, such as the ban on playing between 1955 and 1970 imposed by the DFB and the ongoing struggle for recognition of the immensely successful women’s teams.
