The Goethebunker in Essen

MusicEssenBunker
Where once a high bunker stood, the nightlife pulsates today: A club in Essen-Rüttenscheid offers a unique atmosphere with its thick bunker walls. Known for minimal parties with top DJs, house and hip-hop can also be heard here – a place with history and its own charm.

The building itself appears unremarkable, almost like a two-story warehouse, slightly set back and blending inconspicuously into the residential area. Bullet holes in the facade are a reminder of the former function of the old air raid shelter in Essen-Rüttenscheid. The meter-thick bunker walls provide a unique acoustics – and ensure that the nights here do not disturb anyone.

Inside, visitors are not greeted by a glossy atmosphere, but by an authentic club experience that perfectly fits the Ruhr area. The club is known for legendary minimal parties with renowned DJs, but house and hip-hop also have their place here. And the horse in the logo? It is a remnant from the past – before the club moved in, there was a shop for equestrian supplies in the premises.
